Laser Therapy

Laser therapy is a noninvasive treatment option that uses targeted light energy to help reduce pain and inflammation associated with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders. By delivering therapeutic light to the affected joints and surrounding muscles, laser therapy may support the body's natural healing response and promote improved comfort and function.

Benefits of Laser Therapy

For patients with TMJ disorders, laser therapy may:

  • Reduce jaw and facial pain

  • Decrease inflammation around the temporomandibular joints

  • Relieve muscle tension and discomfort

  • Improve jaw mobility and function

  • Support tissue healing

  • Provide a noninvasive, medication-free treatment option

Laser therapy is generally comfortable and requires little to no downtime. It can be used on its own or combined with other treatments, such as oral appliances, physical therapy, or therapeutic injections, as part of a comprehensive approach to TMJ care.

Our team evaluates each patient's symptoms and underlying condition to determine whether laser therapy is an appropriate component of their personalized TMJ treatment plan.

How Many Laser Therapy Treatments Will I Need?

The number of laser therapy treatments needed for TMJ pain varies from patient to patient and depends on factors such as the severity of symptoms, the degree of inflammation, and the condition of the jaw joints and surrounding muscles.

Some patients may begin to notice improvement after just a few treatments as pain and inflammation decrease. However, a series of approximately 6 to 12 treatments may be recommended to provide a more comprehensive course of therapy and support the body's healing response.

Treatment recommendations are individualized based on each patient's symptoms and response to therapy. Completing the recommended treatment series may help maximize the potential benefits of laser therapy and provide more lasting symptom relief.

Laser therapy sessions are typically brief, often taking approximately 5 to 10 minutes, making treatment convenient to incorporate into a busy schedule. Your provider will recommend the appropriate frequency and number of treatments based on your individual needs.
